Shantih Shala Holistic Arts never fails to deliver a unique and healing experience! I always walk away from a workshop or a session feeling incredibly grateful, rejuvenated and connected to myself and others, and the Drama Healing workshop was no exception! Our fearless leader Josephine gives 100% of herself, her commitment and beautiful energy and that is always felt, adding to what is a very nurturing and supportive environment. The workshop leader, Man Cheung, was really knowledgeable, open, fun and inspiring. Him and Josephine were able to create together an experience that stayed with me for days and had a lasting impact on me and my approaches as a teacher. I couldn’t have asked for more…except “When can we have more?”.

I also truly admired and appreciated the you and Man’s facilitation- which was filled with so much care, patience, and love. I felt very safe to be in the space and open up, do art, reflect and be vulnerable. I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere that you two were able to create!

The workshop was very satisfying and more than I expected. The energy from the facilitator, instructor and the entire group was great, very warm, welcoming, everybody was very committed and put out amazing energy!

So many life lessons were learned in this period – among which is that when more difficult /unpleasant feelings arise are met with acceptance and deep listening and a trust in love and self, something absolutely beautiful and precious can emerge!

I’m looking back so fondly at the two day workshop we had. From start to end, it was so special to tap into the intuitive parts of myself and let creativity spring out from this inner connection and listening. I loved the physical ensemble work that allowed me to be individually expressive within a set structure, but also sync and complement others that made me feel very connected to others.On both an emotional and physical level.

这两天的工作坊让我回想起来感到十分喜爱。从开始到结束,连接自己直觉的部分、通过这种内在连接和倾听、让创造力流出来,对我来说是如此的特别。我很爱集体身体表演的那部分,它让我能够在一个集体结构中,独立表达自己,但同时又与他人同步和互补。这让我感觉非常与他人连接,在情感和身体上都是。

The workshop reminded me about the joys of attuning to the creative process rather than just the process – how powerful it can be when we seek the lessons learned along the way of creating something.

这次的工作坊让我想起了与创造的过程同调阶段的喜悦,而不只是创作过程本身。在我们创作的过程中,探寻我们能够学到的功课,能够有多强大。

The masks on the second day were also a real treat – it was challenging to work with the medium and I loved studying what reactions and responses came from that challenge, and how that reflected parts of ourselves that perhaps we are not as aware of.

第二天的面具练习对我来说是个惊喜。与面具这个媒介工作很有挑战性。我很爱去研究通过这个挑战而产生的反应和回应,还有这些如何反射出我们自己也许没有意识到的自我部分。

When you throw your plans out the window, you have more fun and allow for better impulses to come through!

Q: What were the most important realizations/lessons you discovered during the workshop?

A: Less is more. Stay open and say “yes” to change, listen with your whole body

The silent exercise on the first day – I appreciated the opportunity to quiet my mind and tune in with the energies around me.

“I just want to begin by stating explicitly that I am not a practicing psychodrama-therapist. I am a drama facilitator and educator and as such, my practice often overlaps with what psychodrama does. This workshop is not about exposing your inner demons, it is a taste of what psychodrama can do. If you want to really explore psychodrama I suggest you find a qualified practitioner.

In this workshop we will explore the basis of psychodrama which is the practice of real stories and their negotiated recreations and re-imaginings. We will reflect on this process in order to gain wisdom and insight from past practices and how they impact decisions we make on a daily basis. Get ready to meet your “Angel”, face your gateways and change your perceptions of the past.”

Man Cheung is a Drama Teacher from Australia who facilitates drama and performance workshops for all ages. He has lead workshops in Improvisation, Contact Improvisation, Counterpoints, Trestle Table Mask, commedia dell’arte, physical theatre and circus amongst other things. Currently a Drama and Performance Researcher at Doremi Dramatic English in Shanghai and Monash University of Australia, he also founded the internationally renowned institutions DEER Theatre in 2006 and Pretzel Youth Theatre Collective in 2019.

With deep passion and a wealth of experience, Man views Drama as the study of life. Understanding Drama gives us a clearer understanding into the human condition: what drives us, what motivates us and how we can be free of those invisible forces that can otherwise hold us back. The best Drama practice focuses on being present, being in the now.

Enriched with over 10 years of teaching experience, Josephine Ong is the founder and leading therapist of Shantih Shala Holistic Arts (SSHA). She is a skilled Wellness TherapistEnergy Healer, Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer internationally recognized by Yoga Alliance, Yoga Arts Australia, Sivananda Vedante (Institute) Training Academy of Chennai (India) and ACE (American Council On Exercise).

Since 2008, Shantih Shala Holistic Arts (SSHA) was founded to serve as a platform promoting empowerment through the healing arts, specifically via Holistic practices to manage the Mind, Body and Heart. With the mission of helping others to empower themselves on a physical, mental and emotional level holistically, SSHA offers effective, high quality skills and practical professional expertise.

Josephine has helped empower many individuals from all kinds of backgrounds to achieve their goals by incorporating their personal interests with various tools and methods. Her work is a fusion of various disciplines that includes Energy Healing, Sound Therapy, Reiki, Counseling, Yoga, Ayurveda, Meditation, Feldenkrais, Cranial-Sacral Therapy, Aromatherapy, Shamanism, physical exercises, Massage, Music, Art and Dance.
